Environmental designer Susan (Kinski) marries
financial advisor Kevin (Bick) after a whirlwind romance. Although the
couple is blissfully happy at first, Susan starts getting threatening
phone calls from someone claiming to be and ex girlfriend of Kevin’s.
Altogether the film is rather suspenseful, although
quite predictable at times. When Susan is spending time alone at her
mother’s grave, and goes into the sauna and you see another person sitting
there with a towel over their head, you know she’s going to be attacked.
And just as the private detective she hires finds crucial information, he
gets murdered. Then there’s the plotline with her sister and her abusive
husband which doesn’t seem to go anywhere.
Although the movie does start off a little slowly,
I found myself becoming quite absorbed as the story progressed. Kinski
portrays here character very well and the end provides quite a pleasant
twist to the norm, and Gordon Pinsent delivers a great performance as the
elderly and very dignified private detective Martin Howell. It’s a pity he
doesn’t feature more strongly in the film.
If you’re looking for a thriller without lots of
bloodshed, you’d probably enjoy this one.
